Uchiko has been a major source of happiness in our lives over the past handful of months. In June, we received an invitation to try this “son of Uchi” during their pre-opening event where everything on the menu was half price. We went with fellow food lovers Laura and Mike and between the four of us, sampled almost half the menu.

Today on the show we had the pleasure of sipping on champagne with the beverage director of Uchi. June Rodil was named Texas’ Best Sommelier at the Texas Sommelier Conference last month. She outperformed 20 of her peers from across the state in a grueling three-part examination involving theory, service for Master Sommeliers, and a blind tasting.

I’m super excited about the Summer 2009 issue of edible AUSTIN, available at the downtown and Sunset Valleys farmer’s markets on Saturday! Associate Publisher (and Austin food event regular) Jenna Noel tells me that they will deliver this free quarterly magazine around town at these locations starting Monday.
