Sunday, Dec. 4: Thai Food for Flood Relief

A tight-knit Central Texas community has organized an important fundraiser, and local fans of Thai food won’t believe what they have put together. Over two dozen area restaurants will be offering their favorite dishes on a rotating schedule at an all-you-can-eat buffet, complete with live music and a cash bar, in downtown Austin at Thai Passion (620 Congress Avenue # 105  Austin, TX 78701).

Lotus of Siam: Best Thai Food Outside of Thailand

The turning point of my Las Vegas adventure (the day before Bouchon), was dinner with a group of twelve of my colleagues at Lotus of Siam, a restaurant OFF the Vegas strip. Thanks to Mike of Austin Food Carts for telling me about this place, where the chef tied Tyson Cole for Best Chef in the SW at this year’s James Beard Foundation Awards.

Last week a bunch of food bloggers and reporters were invited to Thai-Fresh, a fast casual Thai restaurant on W. Mary Street in South Austin. The chef/owner, Jam, and David of Tipsy Texan wanted us to check out their new class — Summer Cocktails and Thai Appetizers. They are offering the class this Thursday, May 14 if you want to check it out yourself.
I loved the Thai food but it was the inventive drinks and the history behind American cocktails that really blew me away. The Tipsy Texan makes his …

Black-Market Ziplock-Baggie No-Phone-Number Thai Food Club

People criticize social media all the time but I say, if you use it (and don’t let it use you), it’s one of the greatest informational tools ever created. For example, I recently learned that there is a home-cooked Thai delivery service called My Thai Mom from J.P., a friend of a friend on Facebook (who is now my Facebook friend).
You might wonder why My Thai Mom isn’t hyperlinked. I mean, even Russ & Daughters in NYC has a web site and they are about as family-owned as a business …
