I was honored and surprised to receive a call from Addie Broyles yesterday asking a fact checking question about my adapted recipe for apple pie with cheese crust from a blog I wrote last fall. She told me that there was a question about the amount of sugar in the filling — and she was right. I had left out a 1/2 of a cup!
It was fun to open up the paper today and see the story in print.

In early June, after my first post about Joe Humel, Jeff Salamon, an acquantance and writer for the Statesman, picked up a bagel at Wheatsville and posted on his Twitter account, “OMG, Jodi Bart is right: Austin finally has a good bagel.”
A month later, Facebook reminded me that it was Jeff’s birthday. I posted, “Happy Birthday! Did you kick off the day with a rockstar bagel?”

After reading the Statesman story about restaurateur Lola Stephens-Bell handing out ice water to Austin’s homeless to cool them down on these 100 degree and higher days, I knew it was finally time to check out her place, Nubian Queen Lola’s Cajun Soul Food.
