Trulucks vs. Eddie V’s

Over the span of three days a couple weeks ago, I was lucky enough to dine at both the downtown Austin locations of Truluck’s and Eddie V’s as a guest of each restaurant.
The similarities were many. Both specialize in fine dining seafood and steak, both are part of a family of restaurants — there are ten Truluck’s  and five Eddie V’s — Roaring Fork and Wildfish Seafood Grille are also part of the Eddie V’s group. There are two locations of both in Austin — one downtown, one in the …

Gumbo’s would be perfect for a quiet business lunch, or a romantic dinner. There’s …

Tasty Touring on YouTube

Now that I’m the proud owner of an iPhone 3GS (aka a blogger’s best friend), I had to try the video function as soon as possible. On Friday, Adam and I picked up Katie and I interviewed them about cajun cuisine and seafood in Austin. On Sunday, I began interviewing folks during the biweekly Sno Cone Club “meeting” at Casey’s on 51st. You can check out new videos anytime on www.tastytouring.com. Here’s one example:

What kinds of video would you like to see on Tasty Touring in the future? I’m thinking …

Perla’s Restaurant Review by Guest Blogger Betsy Goldin Becker

I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and can’t think of a more satisfying meal than a plate of fresh local seafood paired with an ice cold beer. In lovely yet land-locked Austin, a meal like that is virtually impossible to come by. So needless to say, I was excited to check out Perla’s, hopeful it would help fill my homesick yearnings for the fresh and flavorful fruits of the sea.
The Scene – As soon as I entered Perla’s lush, oak-tree lined patio area, I felt …
