Cuban Sandwich Cafe – A NE Austin Neighborhood Gem

If you haven’t yet been to Cuban Sandwich Cafe, add it to your “to try” for breakfast and lunch list. This mom and pop shop is unassuming, located in a strip mall in the Windsor Park area of Austin next to a storefront church, and makes truly memorable breakfast pastries and sandwiches.

Below is a selection of the breakfast pastries that a group of us shared. I can’t remember what the total price was for these, but I do remember being surprised by how inexpensive they were. We sipped our Cuban …

Last night, I had the pleasure of being invited to a tasting at the Noble Pig. Visiting the Noble Pig has been high on my list to visit since it opened last fall. But as my friends can tell you, I rarely venture outside of the twenty minute driving radius from my house. Jillian and …

His name is Alex and he better not get fired for his awesomeness. You see, the guys (usually they are dudes) that work there also deliver sandwiches to nearby businesses and residents that order. I’m assuming Alex ended his delivery shift and started his register shift but wanted to keep it safe. And, …

The Jalopy: Sandwiches from a Mack Truck

The folks from The Jalopy: Rotisserie and Press invited me to come by and give their pressed sandwiches a try before their grand opening. I drove over to their truck at 18th and Guadalupe (on the same block as Clay Pit) with colleagues Marc and Jimmy. This is the first food truck I’ve seen that’s served out of a long haul shipping truck.

The ordering window is really high up from the ground and we weren’t sure if we should climb the crates to order or just yell up. We hollered …
