After reading Mike Sutter’s Statesman post on Pie Slice bakery on South Lamar, I couldn’t wait long to give it a try. Since it was my turn on Friday to pick up breakfast tacos for my colleagues at Fleishman Hillard, I decided to try out their $0.99 tacos made with house-made flour tortillas.
Pie Slice is a small store ront on the west side of Lamar between Mary and Oltorf. The flashing sign and arrow helped me find it without any problem.

It’s been a wonderful week spending time with family and old friends this Thanksgiving. Last year, both Rachel and I stayed in Austin and while it was great to be together — it was more than a little sad eating Thanksgiving dinner at Threadgills.
This year, the Feldman’s invited us to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with their large extended family. The table was decorated beautifully and Eileen made an absolutely delicious meal. There was not one thing I tried that I didn’t like.

There’s almost nothing that I like better than a freshly-baked pie. Growing up, I enjoyed my mom’s famous apple pies on special occasions – usually when we had guests over for dinner – and for breakfast the next morning.
Although I grew up on the East coast, I know that there are some serious pie-bakers here in Texas as well. I recently planned a road trip with four of my closest girl friends to Round Top for a day of pie tasting at Royer’s.
