Jeff’s East Village Eating Tour

Austinites, thank you for your patience! This is my final NYC blog of 2010.
I loved it when my brother Jeff suggested he would take Adam and I on an eating tour of the East Village, tasting some of his favorite bites in the city.
The tour included some walking and lots of talking, punctuated by small meals. Our first stop was Porchetta, where we ordered the $10 Porchetta sandwich, dividing it into three.
I loved the delicious, porky, goodness and the crispy bits of skin.
Our next stop was just down the street …

Brooklyn’s Buttermilk Channel Brunch

This post is especially drool-worthy and I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. When we were in New York, our friends recommended brunch at Buttermilk Channel. It sounded so fluffy and delicious!
I was curious about the freshly-made sour cream donuts so ordered one up for us to share. It was good, but a little heavy for my taste. At $2, it was a worthwhile investment.

NYC Food Trucks on Park Avenue

Thanks to Twitter, @??? (Tony ?), connected me to Perry from @nystfood, who e-mailed me a list of some of his favorite food trucks in the city. At the moment, Perry specializes in Manhattan food trucks, which served me just fine, since we would be spending most of the week in the city. Lunches were unplanned, due to my work schedule, so I was hoping to visit a handful of food trucks midday. Thanks to Perry and his wonderful site, that’s exactly what I did.
While the trucks park in various …

Foot (and Back) Heaven in New York’s Chinatown

From Joe’s Shanghai (see yesterday’s blog to read about my soup dumpling adventure in NYC), I walked across the street to Foot Heaven for a massage.
Earlier in the week, I sent out an email asking friends to recommend a cheap massage place, preferably in Chinatown, and Jillian recommended this spot. I made an appointment (although they take walk-ins as well) for an hour long acupressure back rub ($45).
For those accustomed to high-end massage experiences, Foot Heaven could be an unpleasant surprise. The atmosphere, while calm, is not stylish or particularly …
