Our Texas Hill Country Wedding

For me, really feeling like a truly married person has been a gradual process over a year and a half period. Adam and I got engaged in Paris on Sept. 25, 2011, got legally married in Houston in a hastily planned ceremony on Dec. 25, 2011 (Christmas Day), and co-hosted a second wedding ceremony and celebration in Austin on Oct. 6, 2012. Last week, I officially changed my name to Jodi Bart Holzband on my driver’s license, and today I’m finally sharing some of my favorite moments from our Hill …

Holiday Gift Ideas that Make Me Smile

I’ve been taking a little bit of a holiday from blogging and social media for a while. December just feels so frenetic with the holidays and the year end scramble at work that I decided to simplify my life.
However, I did want to share two awesome last-minute Christmas (or belated Chanukah) gift ideas with you.

Yucatán – sweetness and achiote seasoning
Oaxaca – tamales and …

Calbi Fusion and the Growing Korea-Mex Food Scene

I’m posting about this new food truck at the corner of San Jacinto and 15th mainly because I promised three very nice customers I met there today that I would. Hi, guys!
Anyway, I learned about Calbi from an article in the Austin Business Journal promoting $1 tacos today until 1 p.m. I was intrigued and decided to stop off on my way back to work from an appointment.
There was a small crowd outside but most seemed to be folks who worked in the neighborhood — not the usual food blogging …

Barbecued Goat, Anyone?

Adam lives in East Austin, a neighborhood that is predominately Mexican-American.
As he headed out to join me downtown on New Years Eve, he was held up by a pickup truck blocking his driveway. The truck belonged to a Spanish-speaking man named Cristino, who asked permission to cut some of the Agave plant on the side of the house to make Barbacoa de Chivo, or barbecued baby goat.
Cristino offered a plate of food in exchange for part of the plant and Adam agreed even though at the time, he had no …
