I’ve been traveling a lot for work – eating meals on-the-go that have been generally disappointing. My expectations low, I flew back to Austin and stopped off at Sandra Bullock’s new shop, Walton’s Fancy and Staple at 6th between Rio Grande and Nueces, for a quick lunch before finishing off the day at my office. I often forget about Food Heads but I was recently reminded that it’s a really great place to enjoy friendship and food. They have a large selection of soups, sandwiches and more. With the weather getting nicer by the day, don’t forget about this little lunch spot hidden away on W. 34th Street.
Next door to Food Heads is Salvation Pizza — where some of the best pie in Austin is served.

Koriente is one of my favorite spots in Austin — great for a quick, healthy and delicious downtown lunch or dinner before a concert on Red River. It’s owned by a great family who have infused their personalities into the menu and the quirky ambience of the place.

On Friday I took Brooke out for her birthday dinner at Primizie, an Italian Osteria on the quickly gentrifying East 11th Street. I’d been there twice for lunch and enjoyed wonderful sandwiches and was looking forward to checking out the scene for dinner. At lunch we had always sat inside and it gets pretty loud because of the acoustics.

Everything at WeFuse, a new Asian lunch spot on 4th and Brazos seems well thought out…except the name. Who cares about that when the food is this delicious, reasonably priced, and healthy! This is the kind of place that us downtown working stiffs really need.
