Tarka brings the heat to the South Austin Restaurant Scene

Tarka Indian Kitchen felt like a fast casual chain which surprised me when I checked it out because there is only one location. It’s owned by the Clay Pit people and is a fast-casual version of that restaurant with cozy chairs and an appealing atmosphere but without the special dining experience feel.
After enjoying a fantastic tasting meal in a comfortable and relaxed environment, I found myself not minding the idea at all of finding a Tarka in mini-malls across the land.
My friend Addie and I wanted to try everything on …

Snack Bar Austin Finally Opens

I was very excited to learn that Snack Bar on South Congress is officially open after months of construction, waiting, and two soft openings — one during SXSW in March and one during Austin City Limits Music Festival in early October.

Brunch in Wimberley at The Leaning Pear

One of my favorite weekend activities is to take road trips to all of the great small towns in the Hill Country. Today Adam and I joined the KGSR “Late Show” guys and their ladies for brunch at The Leaning Pear in Wimberley.

GO TEXAN
We were invited for a meal by the folks promoting the GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up, a statewide event Sept. 28-Oct. 2, where participating restaurants serve a special Texas menu. A portion of the proceeds may go to food …

Bright Spots to Lunch in Downtown Austin

I’ve been traveling a lot for work – eating meals on-the-go that have been generally disappointing. My expectations low, I flew back to Austin and stopped off at Sandra Bullock’s new shop, Walton’s Fancy and Staple at 6th between Rio Grande and Nueces, for a quick lunch before finishing off the day at my office. As I entered the beautiful restored brick building, I breathed in the fresh baked smells, took in the relaxed staff and customers, and my shoulders began to lower. Notice Ms. Bullock below in a Google …
