Best Cold, Sweet Treats on KGSR

This week on Tasty Tuesdays, you all shared your favorite Austin cold sweet treats. Mine include Teo for gelato, Mambo Berry for frozen yogurt, and Blue Bell Mint Chocolate Chip bars.
We talked about this on the show today, along with the new trend of frozen yogurt sweeping the nation. Andy likes the frozen yogurt place in the Triangle and I think it’s horrible — the ingredients are all chemicals and all of the sorority girl types go there because it’s mostly “fat free” and then they serve themselves in a …

Best BBQ within the Austin City Limits

Today we talked about the best BBQ within the Austin City Limits. If you listened, you know that I was pushing hard to talk about BBQ in Texas, or at least Central Texas. Andy wanted to talk about where you might take an out-of-towner if they didn’t have time to drive 20 minutes outside of Austin to hit the Salt Lick or Smitty’s or Kreutz or Snow’s.

Tony Villani and Little Deli Pizza on KGSR

My mind was blown this morning. Last week, Andy told me and Bryan that we were going to try the BEST pizza in Austin. And that it was from Little Deli. Now I’m embarrassed to say that I had never eaten at Little Deli before, even though they are one of Austin’s highest rated restaurants on Yelp due to their amazing sandwiches.
Tony took over this Crestview neighborhood lunch spot 3 years ago and has worked hard to keep the quality high and the feel personal. He added pizza about three …

After reading the Statesman story about restaurateur Lola Stephens-Bell handing out ice water to Austin’s homeless to cool them down on these 100 degree and higher days, I knew it was finally time to check out her place, Nubian Queen Lola’s Cajun Soul Food. A group was quickly formed via Twitter and e-mail, and I called Lola to make a reservation for 7 p.m. the following night, a Tuesday.
The group included me and Adam, Ilyse, Darrell from Bella Verdi Farms, David and Betsy, and Jennifer and Roderick. When we arrived, …
