Out-of-Town Visitors’ Austin Recommendations: Part 2

Our wedding guests sent in some great recommendations for me to pass on to other visitors to Austin. Here’s part two of the series.

From an out of towner/former local, my favorites:

Yummy brunch at Olivia– especially their fried chicken
Getting Upper Crust cinnamon rolls and coffee at Flipnotics on the way to Barton Springs
Green chile queso from Torchy’s
Pimento cheese sandwich and Tom’s Fudge from Wheatsville Co-op

Disappointment:

Ice cream at Lick

Biggest tip:
When time is tight, it’s never too late (or early) to get your Texas fix– 9 a.m. Salt Lick BBQ breakfast tacos …

I’m often asked about my favorite food trucks, or those I most recommend in town since there are so many. Here is a list of trucks that are either my favorites, or those that I know many other people enjoy.

Jewish Outlook: Moses Falafel Kosher Trailer to Open in January

Austin’s first kosher food trailer — Moses Falafel — will be opening to the public this Sunday, Jan. 8 on the campus of the Dell Jewish Community Center off Far West Boulevard.
If you dig Israeli food, or are vegetarian or vegan, this is something that likely has you squealing for joy right about now! And to top it off, follow Moses Falafel on Facebook and print out a buy one, get one free coupon to use this Sunday.

Tasty Tuesdays: Best Food Trucks in Austin

The Austin food scene is constantly changing. It was announced last week that a local favorite, Odd Duck Farm to Trailer, is closing. Chef Bryce Gilmore is smart to focus on Barley Swine, his brick and mortar restaurant that has gotten rave reviews nationally.
And while some other old favorites have closed, or just gone downhill, there are new trailers constantly coming onto the scene to replace them. Last week, I got to try one of them — The Seedling Truck by the people who run Royal Fig Catering.
