The Jalopy: Sandwiches from a Mack Truck

The folks from The Jalopy: Rotisserie and Press invited me to come by and give their pressed sandwiches a try before their grand opening. I drove over to their truck at 18th and Guadalupe (on the same block as Clay Pit) with colleagues Marc and Jimmy. This is the first food truck I’ve seen that’s served out of a long haul shipping truck.

The ordering window is really high up from the ground and we weren’t sure if we should climb the crates to order or just yell up. We hollered …

Andrea Day-Boykin of Flip Happy Crepes on KGSR

Andrea chatted with me, Andy, and Bryan today about Flip Happy Crepes, the converted airstream trailer she owns with business partner Nessa Huggins.
She brought some delicious crepes for us to taste include the vanilla cream with berries, lemon curd with blueberries, the Cuban, ham and cheese, and bananna nutella. If only every day began with a fresh nutella and banana crepe. Mmmmmm.
The news? Flip Happy is now open from Wednesdays to Sundays from at least 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Vaquero Cocina: Cowboy Cuisine with Central American Flair

While I mentioned Vaquero Cocina as a great place in Austin to pick up BBQ on KGSR a couple weeks ago, I wanted to share a little more with you and finally settled on giving this lovely trailer it’s own post.
Vaquero Cocina is among the trailers on the South Congress strip — in the middle of a block that boasts Mighty Cone on one end and Hey Cupcake on the other.
I’d been hearing really good things about Mambo Berry, the natural frozen yogurt trailer directly north of Vaquero Cocina, and …
