Eat Local, Do Good, and Taste Austin

Labor Day marks the traditional end of summer and while the weather is still in the upper 90’s, calendars and inboxes are filling up with fun events around town.
Austin Restaurant Week kicks off on Sunday, Sept. 13-16 and the following week — Sept. 20-23. The event is a great opportunity to try fixed price meals at higher end eateries throughout the city from $25-$35. Five percent of the proceeds will go to the Sustainable Food Center and AIDS Services of Austin.

I was honored to be a judge a couple weeks ago in Jennie Chen’s Cupcake Smackdown at One 2 One bar in downtown Austin and have been meaning to write about the event since then. Mid-Summer Tasty Touring Linkdown: The Tasty Bits

I learned through Natanya’s Fete and Feast blog that (512) Brewing Company is having a party to celebrate their 1st anniversary this Saturday from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. If you’re legal to drink, you can tour the brewery, listen to live music, and maybe even leave with a free gift. More info here.
