Free Samples Day

Today I’m at the mercy of the food and beverage marketers of the world. My level of fullness is completely dependent on the plans for today’s grocery store merchants and food publicists to offer tasty and nutritious snacks. Adam and I are heading down to meet David Becker at the downtown Farmer’s Market to begin our quest for free samples.

The mission: Live off of free samples for a full day and live blog the experience on both Tasty Touring and The Forty Days.

Meatless Balls: Four Meals in the Four Corners

While I may not be blogging about the restaurants on this particular trip to Colorado, I did enjoy some amazing fried chicken at Southern Vittles in Lake City, fresh salsa and enchiladas at Buen Tiempo in Ouray, fish tacos at Steamworks Brewery in Durango, and an Elk burger at Handlebars in Silverton (pictured below).

There will probably soon be a line out the door at Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop on S. 1st and Oltorf…to celebrate their half birthday (183 days old) they are giving away one baked good per person to the first 183 customers. After that, everything is half off for the rest of the day until they run out (hours are 12-8 but guaranteed they will run out early). Sugar Mama’s are my favorite cupcakes in town but as I’m still on my cleanse, you’ll have to eat one on my behalf.

Austin Downtown Farmer’s Market and Cleanse Update

Today is the sixth night of my two-week cleanse and I’m quite full. It’s close to 9 p.m. and I’m not even hungry for dinner after eating a late lunch at around 2 p.m.
Yesterday Deanna and I walked from my apartment in Clarksville to the Downtown Farmer’s Market. I wanted to stock up on cleanse-friendly foods after giving myself a break during the shabbat dinner I co-hosted the night before. That night I had wine, challah, pasta, and LOTS of dessert so it was time to get back on track.
I …
