Suggested Route: Saturday’s East Austin Taco Bike Tour

I spent my lunch hour today driving the route for the East Austin Taco Bike Tour. You guys would have giggled if you had seen me using my broken Spanish to communicate to some of the people at the stops for Saturday. Muchos personas van a comer tacos aqui en Sabado. Quisieramos comer muchos tacos. Gracias! According to Google Translator, this means: Many people go to eat tacos here on Saturday. We would like to eat many tacos.

May 16: East Austin Taco Tasting Bike Tour

I hope you will join us for the East Austin Taco Tasting Bike Tour where we joined forces with Mando from Taco Journalism to put together a fun, bicycle-friendly itinerary for Saturday, May 16 at 11 a.m.
The tour will be self-guided and will include stops hand-picked by Mando who is arguably, Austin’s “Rey de Tacos.” You can read about some of the taco tours he has participated in here and here.

Barbecued Goat, Anyone?

Adam lives in East Austin, a neighborhood that is predominately Mexican-American.
As he headed out to join me downtown on New Years Eve, he was held up by a pickup truck blocking his driveway. The truck belonged to a Spanish-speaking man named Cristino, who asked permission to cut some of the Agave plant on the side of the house to make Barbacoa de Chivo, or barbecued baby goat.

The Good, [The Bad, and The Ugly] Knight

The Good Knight is a bar/restaurant that opened in a nondescript building on E. 6th Street in August. I’d been hearing that the food was really good and that the place had a cool atmosphere.
The Good: Incredible menu and interesting drinks; sexy curtained booths and candlelight; feels like a speakeasy.
The Bad: Filling water glasses, providing tableware, clearing used plates, and knowledge of the menu was not high on our waiters priority list. Lighting was so dim that we couldn’t clearly see what we were eating.
