First Impressions: Second Bar + Kitchen

Last week, I was lucky enough to join Adam and his colleagues for a test meal at the much anticipated Second Bar + Kitchen. Adam is working on the Congress Austin website.
In our two years of dating, this was the first time that having a food blog actually worked against me — I almost didn’t get in! I promised not to tweet about the experience until the opening.
On Sunday, the day after Christmas, Second Bar + Kitchen officially opened for dinner. Since then, the buzz about the place has been …

The Tigress Brings Out the Feline

I’m kicking myself for writing this because The Tigress is the kind of place that makes you feel like you “discovered it” and are in on a secret. Add to that the fact that it’s tiny and to be honest with you, I don’t want anyone to go except for my friends.

Eastside Showroom Keeping Austin Cool

A quick post about how much I love East Side Showroom, a place I love in spite of myself. Why didn’t I want to like it? Mostly, because of it’s popularity with the hipsters, higher prices, long waits, and smoky interior (due to ventilation issues in the kitchen that may now be resolved).

However, when Adam and I joined our friend Jon for dinner and drinks on a recent Monday night, we all felt it lived up to the hype. I’ve been thinking about it ever since and am going back …

Snack Bar Austin Finally Opens

I was very excited to learn that Snack Bar on South Congress is officially open after months of construction, waiting, and two soft openings — one during SXSW in March and one during Austin City Limits Music Festival in early October.
I called and was told that they will be open for the next week during breakfast, lunch, and for afternoon snacktime — closing at 4 p.m. I believe their hours will stretch much later once they have a chance to hire more staff and get in the groove.
This spot, vacated …
