Identifying Vegetables in a CSA Box

Just a quick public service post that Johnson’s Backyard Garden‘s website ROCKS! There are other CSA (community supported agriculture) programs in Austin, but my hunger for information makes Johnson’s the best in my book. They post a picture of the contents of their weekly delivery, and when you roll your mouse over each item, it is identified for you!

CSA and Backyard Garden-Inspired Meals

Adam and I are checking out Green Gate Farms CSA this month — splitting a full share with our friends Laura and Mike. CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture,” and basically is a way to connect consumers and farmers directly — cutting out the middle man and ensuring food is eaten at its peak. I think the best part so far is the new recipe experimenting. We picked up our loot last Saturday from our new friend Adelea and she passed along some great recipes. I made my own version …

Grocery Delivery – Can it Work in Austin?

I was on the campus of UT-Austin the other day, helping shoot these videos on Valentine’s Day and text messaging, when I saw this yellow van with the shopping cart on top. Of course I had to stop and take a picture….

I did some quick web research and learned that City Sackers is an Austin grocery delivery service that provides “fast, reliable service at affordable prices.” You order online, pick a time slot for delivery, and pay a $2 delivery fee (there is no minimum order).
