Snack Bar Austin Finally Opens

I was very excited to learn that Snack Bar on South Congress is officially open after months of construction, waiting, and two soft openings — one during SXSW in March and one during Austin City Limits Music Festival in early October.
I called and was told that they will be open for the next week during breakfast, lunch, and for afternoon snacktime — closing at 4 p.m. I believe their hours will stretch much later once they have a chance to hire more staff and get in the groove.
This spot, vacated …

Breakfast Tacos with Mando on KGSR

Thank you to those of you who voted on the blog, Twitter, or Facebook. I really appreciate your input and learn so much from your suggestions.
Top vote getters were Torchy’s, Maria’s Taco XPress, Taco Deli, and Taco Shack.
Other Recs: El Chilito, La Tapatia, Enchiladas y Mas, Mi Madres, Tamale House, Nueva Onda, and Pie Slice.

The breakfast tacos range in price from $2-$3.50 and we ordered four #0 tacos (bacon, potatoes, egg, and cheese), one #8 (vegetarian migas with corn chips, eggs, onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, and cheese), one #17 (pork adobado, grilled onions, and avocado).
I’m not the most adventurous person when …

Start Your Day at the Counter Cafe

The Counter Cafe is the kind of place that makes you feel like a regular the first time you walk through the door.
I was craving real eggs the other day. The kind that come from local hens and were picked within 24 hours from their warm nest.
Don’t you agree that these types of eggs should have a different name than the one you buy in the cold section at the grocery store? The yolks are vibrant, the taste is more flavorful, and the cooked eggs are fluffy and light.
The menu …
