I know I shouldn’t do this but I cannot resist poking a little fun at Royito’s, the new food trailer opening on W. 6th Street just East of Lamar.
The trailer is having a soft opening this week and word is that GSD&M Idea City co-founder Roy Spence himself is handing out free breakfast tacos and jars of his spicy sauce from the airstream through Friday of this week from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. (or until they run out).

It was an exciting morning on the KGSR “Late Show” with Bryan, Andy. and Mando from Taco Journalism. Tacos were stolen, ate, and discussed.
Mando and I first joined forces back in May for the East Austin Taco Tour and we met for the first time a few months before on a South Austin Taco Tour with a bunch of fellow wrapped food lovers.
Check out this great video of Mando taking salsa shots. That guy is the greatest!

I’m not the most adventurous person when …

After reading Mike Sutter’s Statesman post on Pie Slice bakery on South Lamar, I couldn’t wait long to give it a try. Since it was my turn on Friday to pick up breakfast tacos for my colleagues at Fleishman Hillard, I decided to try out their $0.99 tacos made with house-made flour tortillas.
Pie Slice is a small store ront on the west side of Lamar between Mary and Oltorf. The flashing sign and arrow helped me find it without any problem.
Pie Slice has been open since Dec. 12. The owners …

Eating a taco from a restaurant that calls itself the Screaming Goat is a daunting proposition as anyone who has overdone it with hot peppers can attest. My thinking was that either the owners have a quirky sense of humor or that they are horrible sadists who were going to make me regret choosing to eat there for the rest of the weekend.
After spending a wonderful morning there followed by a peaceful afternoon at home, I can assure you that you will be smiling happily during and after your meal. …
