Take your Veggies to the Chevy

I generally try not to mix business with pleasure on this blog, and most of my business doesn’t happen in Austin. It generally takes place on an hour-long conference callĀ  with clients in other time zones, via e-mail chains, and at occasional out-of-town meetings.
The weekend before last, I happily mixed the two parts of my life on a road trip from Capitol Chevrolet down to the Pearl Farmer’s Market in San Antonio with a group of local food bloggers. Below is a slightly edited version of a blog I wrote …

You’re Bacon Me Crazy!

A couple weeks ago, I overheard a new friend, Brian, talking about bacon to fellow food blogger Logan of Boots in the Oven. My ears immediately perked up and I asked what this bacon talk was all about. Turns out, Brian’s brother Greg Bass cures and smokes pork belly at home and gives portions of bacon to friends and friends of friends. Edible Austin: Summer 2009!

I’m super excited about the Summer 2009 issue of edible AUSTIN, available at the downtown and Sunset Valleys farmer’s markets on Saturday! Associate Publisher (and Austin food event regular) Jenna Noel tells me that they will deliver this free quarterly magazine around town at these locations starting Monday.

The issue will include Joe from Rockstar Bagels, who is joining us on the KGSR late show tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. From the table of contents, it looks like there will be articles about chefs and romance, gardening, local sweeteners, tea time, …

Dudes Love Taco Trucks

The other night I had the unique pleasure of joining Mando from Taco Journalism, David the Soup Peddler, Logan from Boots in the Oven, Food Touring guest blogger Tom, Food Touring muse Adam, and Mando’s adorable wife Ixchel for a South Austin taco tour.
We were supposed to meet at 6:30 p.m. at the gordita/taco truck that parks just west of Thornton on Oltorf. Adam and I were a little late getting there and we received a dejected call from David telling us the truck was not there even though it’s …
