Tonight I was invited to speak at the monthly meeting of the Austin Concierge and Guest Services Association. The event was held at the Hotel Ella with a delicious family-style meal provided by their on-site restaurant – Goodall’s.

Last week, I wrote a guest blog post for my friend Chris’ site — Republic of Austin – on my favorite restaurants in Austin. The piece was a response to the Austin Chronicle‘s recent list of “First Plates” — top restaurants chosen by their food critics.

On Thursday morning, I was lying in bed deciding whether to snooze the alarm for another ten minutes, or drag myself into the shower. Instead of doing either of these, I rolled over, grabbed my iPhone from the bedside table, and checked email and Facebook.
The Austin Chronicle posted a link to their Best of Austin winners, and I immediately checked out the food section to see if any of the people or businesses I loved had been recognized.

This year’s Austin Chronicle‘s “Best of Austin 2011″ poll was published in last week’s issue of the weekly and if you plan to vote, entries are due in less than two weeks — on Monday, July 18.
Rules include one vote per person, no ballot stuffing, and only one ballot per envelope. Ha! I love that they give folks an option to MAIL in their vote. How cute and old-fashioned is Ye Olde Chronicle! Anyway, I’m sure if they ever stopped offering the option of mail-in ballots they would get dozens, …
