Tasty Tuesdays: Best BBQ in Central Texas

I’m a bit obsessed with Texas barbecue, or BBQ, depending on your personal preference, and have written about it quite a bit. Over the almost six years that I’ve lived in Austin, I’ve visited many of the best BBQ pits in the state ranging from Salt Lick to Smitty’s to the back entrance of the Continental Club on South Congress.
Over the past year, I’ve eaten at and written about BBQ tours in Lockhart, fancy BBQ at Lamberts, filling up before wine tasting at Opie’s, Wyatt McSpadden’s Texas BBQ book, a …

Barbecued Goat, Anyone?

Adam lives in East Austin, a neighborhood that is predominately Mexican-American.
As he headed out to join me downtown on New Years Eve, he was held up by a pickup truck blocking his driveway. The truck belonged to a Spanish-speaking man named Cristino, who asked permission to cut some of the Agave plant on the side of the house to make Barbacoa de Chivo, or barbecued baby goat.

Drizzle liberally with tasty morsels of perfectly cooked meat
BBQ of course, is about …

Lamberts’ tagline is “Fancy Barbecue” and that’s exactly what it is.
What’s great about the place is that it marries style with substance and the food definitely comes first. It opened in 2006 after the owners spent two years restoring it to the way it was in the 1870s when it was Austin’s first general store.
Located …

House Park Bar-B-Q Offers a Taste of Old Austin

You know House Park Bar-B-Q? It’s the shack next to Shoal Creek located on 12th near Lamar. You might recognize the famous sign, “Need No Teef to Eat My Beef” and wondered like I did about the history of the place and if the meat is really that tender.

I stopped by for an early lunch yesterday after a meeting in the area and was one of the first patrons of the day. House Park is open for lunch only on weekdays (11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.). I love a place …
