Austin’s Franklin Barbecue Stars in Latest Hitler Parody

Just four days ago, a fellow Jewish Austinite, Jason Goldberg, posted a clip from a German movie, showing Hitler having a meltdown in front of his troops. While this is clearly a scene from a movie about Hitler’s downfall in WWII, Goldberg’s version adds English subtitles — making it seem that Hitler’s despair and rage are due to his obsession with Franklin Barbecue, an Austin BBQ joint  as famous for their delicious brisket as they are for its scarcity.
Anyone who has been to Franklin in the past year has a story of waiting in …

NYC Food Trucks on Park Avenue

Thanks to Twitter, @??? (Tony ?), connected me to Perry from @nystfood, who e-mailed me a list of some of his favorite food trucks in the city. At the moment, Perry specializes in Manhattan food trucks, which served me just fine, since we would be spending most of the week in the city. Vaquero Cocina is among the trailers on the South Congress strip — in the middle of a block that boasts Mighty Cone on one end and Hey Cupcake on the other.
I’d been hearing really good things about Mambo Berry, the natural frozen yogurt trailer directly north of Vaquero Cocina, and …

Best BBQ within the Austin City Limits

Today we talked about the best BBQ within the Austin City Limits. If you listened, you know that I was pushing hard to talk about BBQ in Texas, or at least Central Texas. Andy wanted to talk about where you might take an out-of-towner if they didn’t have time to drive 20 minutes outside of Austin to hit the Salt Lick or Smitty’s or Kreutz or Snow’s.
My picks are Green Mesquite for down home BBQ and Lockhart if you don’t mind your BBQ a little on the fancy side. Check …
