Dudes Love Taco Trucks

The other night I had the unique pleasure of joining Mando from Taco Journalism, David the Soup Peddler, Logan from Boots in the Oven, Food Touring guest blogger Tom, Food Touring muse Adam, and Mando’s adorable wife Ixchel for a South Austin taco tour.

Barbecued Goat, Anyone?

Adam lives in East Austin, a neighborhood that is predominately Mexican-American.
As he headed out to join me downtown on New Years Eve, he was held up by a pickup truck blocking his driveway. The truck belonged to a Spanish-speaking man named Cristino, who asked permission to cut some of the Agave plant on the side of the house to make Barbacoa de Chivo, or barbecued baby goat.

New Years Treat

Some of the best snacks ever are the ones created after a night out on the town. For New Years Eve, Adam and I split the evening between enjoying delicious leftovers at home and hanging out downtown for First Night Austin.

Another Great Vietnamese Option

Normally when I’m in search of passable Vietnamese in Austin I think of three options: Hai Ky, Sunflower, and lulu b’s. Now I’ll add another to the mix — Le Soleil, located up north on Lamar near Rundberg Lane. Rumor has it that Le Soleil was opened by the ex-husband of the owner of Sunflower, after their divorce.
