Wes Marshall: What’s a Wine Lover to Do?

Back in June, Adam and I were guests at the Whole Foods flagship store for a wine pairing dinner with Wes Marshall. Marshall has a column for the Austin Chronicle called Liquid Assets and also writes for the Dallas Morning News, San Francisco Chronicle, and various wine publications. He is now also the author of What’s a Wine Lover to Do?
This was our first time meeting Wes and he is as approachable in person as he is in print. Also, he knows a great party trick (that he demonstrates …

Layers of Tradition in Maryland’s Official State Cake

I’m part of a potluck group called Supperfly, hosted each month at a different home with a theme decided by the host. For some reason, I decided to try Smith Island Cake for a recent Supperfly where the theme was to make something that’s your favorite color. I’m not exactly sure what my favorite color is but chocolate is one of Adam and my favorite foods so it seemed close enough to the theme.
That same week, a recipe for Smith Island Cake, apparently the “Official Cake of the State of …

Your Mom’s Burgers are so Good….

I remember the day I ate at Your Mom’s Burger Bar in East Austin. My colleague and friend Stacy and I drove over to the E. Cesar Chavez and Chalmers burger joint for a quick lunch. It was the Friday before Mother’s Day and it seemed like an appropriate place to eat.
I asked if they had something special for Stacy since she’s a mother and it was Mother’s Day weekend after all. I do think they mentioned they give a little something to folks who come to Your Mom’s with their …

Foreign & Domestic Surprises and Delights

It’s been over six weeks and this is the first time I’m able to admit this on the blog: my camera has gone missing. I’m not sure if I left it on the table after dinner, if it dropped out of my purse when I was running to get out of the rain, or if something more sinister happened.
The lack of my precious Canon s90 has been keeping me from blogging about restaurants and experiences lately because all I have to take pictures with is the iPhone 3G which works …

Tasty Tuesdays: Best Austin Food Trailers for Drunks

For the final Tasty Tuesdays “Best Austin Food Trailers” entry, I’d like your help in putting together a list of the best Austin food trailers to visit between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m.
As Adam can tell you, I’m usually sound asleep by this time so I’m not really sure what the best trailers are to visit and I’d like to make sure I’m ready for a big night out on the town.
Here are some trailers that I know (or have learned from the amazing Austin Food Carts), are generally open …

Tasty Touring is Two! Help me Celebrate YOUR Life in Food

Today is exactly two years, 345 posts, 10 Tasty Tours, and over 20 pounds since I started this blog.
Since then, the name has changed (from Food Touring to Tasty Touring) and the design has changed (thanks to Adam Holzband at Talking Machine). However, the reasons I keep posting remains the same: to express myself in an honest and creative way, share my life through the lens of food, and connect with others.
Am I a foodie? Don’t get me started on the negative connotations I have with that word. What I …

Bessie H: Your Life in Food

We saved the best and the most historic interview for last. Regular readers of Tasty Touring might already know and love Adam’s Bubbe from”The Bubbe Chronicles: Eating with Bubbe.” The most common word to describe Bubbe by her family and friends is “Amazing” and that is certainly true. At 99, she reads books by the dozen a month, enjoys spending time with loved ones, and has a great attitude about life in general. I wish for all of you that you are in as great shape as Bubbe and to …
