Lotus of Siam: Best Thai Food Outside of Thailand

The turning point of my Las Vegas adventure (the day before Bouchon), was dinner with a group of twelve of my colleagues at Lotus of Siam, a restaurant OFF the Vegas strip. Thanks to Mike of Austin Food Carts for telling me about this place, where the chef tied Tyson Cole for Best Chef in the SW at this year’s James Beard Foundation Awards.
The cab ride from our hotel was around $25 and the restaurant was located in a really ugly-looking strip mall. It wasn’t the kind of place that …

Foie Gras for Breakfast in Bed

Here’s the scene from yesterday morning, when I ate the last of the Terrine de Foie Gras de Canard (duck liver) and the two epi baguette‘s my waiter packed up for me the night before. Can you think of anything more fabulous than sitting in a Las Vegas hotel room eating fois gras with a fresh baguette from Thomas Keller’s Bouchon Bistro while watching re-runs of Sex and the City?

Adam’s Uncle David introduced us to ebelskivers, on our visit to Santa Fe back in early March. David made us both sweet and savory ebelskivers for brunch, but the ones …

Thank You All! We Did It!

As I refreshed my Facebook screen for the umpteenth time this morning, I saw my profile picture next to an update from Whole Foods. It didn’t register at first, but as the realization hit me that I was the winner of Whole Food’s national food blogger contest to win a trip to Europe, I screamed and started running around the office, hugging everyone and jumping up and down! Here is that update:

And on the contest page, the win was confirmed!

Thank you to everyone who voted for me — especially those …

Wonders of New Mexico: Road Trip 2011

Adam and I drove almost without stopping from Marathon, TX to Roswell, NM to check out the UFO Museum. After five hours in the car, I kind of looked like an alien myself.  While this “From Roswell to Your Kitchen” cookbook looked intriguing from the cover, it was actually just recipes from local folks for things they enjoy making at home — no recipes from aliens here.
I’ve spent time in Santa Fe before, and knew it was at high altitude. However, last time, I had a couple days to acclimate …
