Tasty Tuesdays: Austin’s Best, Oldest, Restaurants

This past weekend, Adam and I visited his grandmother Sylvia in Tulsa, Oklahoma. One of the things I loved most about the trip was hearing more about Adam’s family history — and eating at places that Sylvia had loved for years. This included Goldie’s Patio (1961) and Braum’s Ice Cream (1968). We also visited Hideaway (1957),¬†a childhood favorite of Apron Adventures‘ Lindsay.
All of that vintage eating activity made me think about restaurants in Austin that have stood the test of time. The ones that popped into my head include¬†Scholz Garden …

Tasty Tuesdays: Best Austin Grocery Store

Austin is kind of a grocery store mecca. Just consider that:

Whole Foods Market started in Austin almost 30 years ago — and is home to the corporate headquarters and flagship store.
Central Market opened it’s first store here — on North Lamar in 1994.
Wheatsville Co-op is the only retail consumer food co-op in Texas and its right here in Austin!

Tasty Tuesdays: Best Fried Chicken in Austin

I’m slightly fried chicken obsessed this week due to a visit to Eastside Showroom for their Monday night fried chicken last night and an upcoming birthday party that will feature “the best” fried chicken and biscuits I’ve ever had in my life.*
*Projection

I’m now on the hunt to find the very best fried chicken in Central Texas. I have votes on Twitter for Cipollina, The Highball, and Royer’s Round Top. I’m interested in hearing where the best fast food fried chicken can be found — Popeye’s, KFC, Church’s, Chick-fil-A? Has anyone …

Tasty Tuesdays: Best Cajun/Creole Food in Austin

My boyfriend loves some Louisiana eats. So does my friend and Mississippi native, Betsy. Her husband, David, a recently reformed vegetarian, is pretty happy eating just about anything. When Betsy and David invited us to road trip down to New Orleans for Jazz Fest this year, I knew there would be some delicious meals ahead.
The drive from Austin to New Orleans is about 8-9 hours. To be honest, I’m not really sure how long it took since I indulged in healthy naps on both legs of the journey. A couple …
