Franks and a Red Headed Stranger

This morning was truly a sausage fest on the KGSR “Late Show” for a visit with the chef and owners of Frank, purveyors of artisan sausage in downtown Austin. I arrived and walked in to the kitchen only to see the kitchen table transformed into a prep line where Matt (the chef) and Geoff and Daniel (the owners) were preparing fresh hot dogs.
Daniel poured me a bloody mary — mind you it wasn’t yet 8:30 a.m. and I was headed to work after the show. It’s called a Red Headed …

Tasty Tuesdays: Best Sushi in Austin

I’m a sucker for new food trailers and after hearing about Sushi-A-Go-Go on Twitter last week, I had to check it out. I drove from my office up to Manor Road where this new trailer was parked after being enticed by their daily Twitter special of $1 edamame and fresh tuna and yellowtail roll for $5.50. Perla’s Restaurant Review by Guest Blogger Betsy Goldin Becker

I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and can’t think of a more satisfying meal than a plate of fresh local seafood paired with an ice cold beer. In lovely yet land-locked Austin, a meal like that is virtually impossible to come by. So needless to say, I was excited to check out Perla’s, hopeful it would help fill my homesick yearnings for the fresh and flavorful fruits of the sea.
The Scene – As soon as I entered Perla’s lush, oak-tree lined patio area, I felt …

Lucali – The Best Pizza in Brooklyn?

A very belated “Thank You” to our Brooklyn friends — Josh, Laura, Lenny, and Danny. We visited them in late April and had dinner plans on a Thursday night. They told us to meet at Josh’s apartment at 5 pm for dinner at a place that was as famous for the long waits as they were for their pizza pies. It’s in Carroll Gardens and is called Lucali.
Lucali is BYOB so we picked up a large bottle of red wine at a nearby bodega. Inside, there were only about …
