The Best Time to Buy Halloween Candy is Now

Today, the day after Halloween, I cam home to bags of candy stacked up on top of the kitchen table. I knew immediately that Adam had gone on his annual day-after-Halloween candy shopping spree.
This haul is the result of a trip to WalMart where Adam picked up a bag of 95 pieces of assorted chocolate candy for less than $5, 50 mini-M&Ms for $4, and bags of nerds and twizzlers for $1/each.
Today the candy was 50% off but Adam told me that the prices generally go down every day after …

Dinner with the Strokes at Swoop House

There’s a handful of “underground” supper clubs around Austin, including Supper Underground, Dai Due, and Hosteria Verde. For one reason or another, I had never visited any of them until my friends’ Laura and Mike invited me to join them for a Supper Friends dinner to sample their wedding menu.
Supper Friends is held at Swoop House, located at 3012 Gonzales in East Austin. Here it is:

Bessie H: Your Life in Food

We saved the best and the most historic interview for last. Regular readers of Tasty Touring might already know and love Adam’s Bubbe from”The Bubbe Chronicles: Eating with Bubbe.” The most common word to describe Bubbe by her family and friends is “Amazing” and that is certainly true. At 99, she reads books by the dozen a month, enjoys spending time with loved ones, and has a great attitude about life in general. I wish for all of you that you are in as great shape as Bubbe and to …

Lenny H: Questions on Your Life in Food

Adam’s dad Lenny is a great cook. It blew my mind when I first visited Paula and Lenny in Houston because growing up, the kitchen was mom’s domain and at the Holzband’s, it’s most definitely “Lenny’s Kitchen.” As you may have read in Adam’s post, Lenny would prepare holiday meals for dozens, brunches for Adam and his friends, and quick chicken roasts for neighbors going through a rough patch.
Next time I’m sick, I’ll be asking Adam to cook me up some Gogol Mogol after reading about Lenny’s Bubbes’ recipe below. …
