Today on the show we had the pleasure of sipping on champagne with the beverage director of Uchi. June Rodil was named Texas’ Best Sommelier at the Texas Sommelier Conference last month. She outperformed 20 of her peers from across the state in a grueling three-part examination involving theory, service for Master Sommeliers, and a blind tasting.

The Winston Churchill High School class of 1996 is having a good week in the world of food media — Dhani Jones was on Man v. Food, David Freedenberg will be on No Reservations, and I was on the KGSR “Late Show” for my weekly Tasty Touring segment.
While a local radio gig may not be as big a deal as being a regular guest with Anthony Bourdain, or having your own show like Dhani Tackles the Globe, my mom still thinks it’s cool.

I’m so glad that Olivia, owner and baker over at Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop, got enough of her voice back to join us on KGSR this morning to tell us about the shop’s first birthday party this Saturday and give us a taste of her delicious new line of bars and mini pies debuting next week!
The party is from 3 – 7 p.m. on Saturday at the shop, located at the corner of Mary and S. 1st, and will include live music, food, drinks, and a pie eating contest.
