I was honored when a writer for the Daily Texan, the student newspaper for the University of Texas, contacted me for a story they were doing on local food bloggers. The story ran yesterday in Longhorn Life, an “Advertising Supplement of the Daily Texan.” Not sure how Tasty Touring and Rebeccamendations ended up in there since we didn’t pay for the articles but I’m not going to complain!

Read on for our mind-blowing insights about Austin’s best cuisine, favorite dish (I don’t actually have one but picked a past obsession), favorite thing eaten from a trailer, place to take out of town friends, best romantic atmosphere, and group happy hour.

After checking out the article, I’m very thankful they let me send them a photo that I like (thanks to Adam H. for taking it at the Tasty Up tour). While Kate sent me questions for the Q&A over e-mail, we didn’t have a formal interview so I’m guessing she pulled the information in the article from my blog which might have been misleading. A couple corrections just for fun (and for records sake):

While originally from Canada (and proud of it), I actually moved to Austin from New York City in 2003. Before that, I lived in Maryland, Michigan, Spain, Maryland, Montreal, and Ottawa (in that order backtracking).

I can’t confirm or deny that the most viewed feature on my blog is Tasty Tuesdays. With Google searches and SEO, that’s probably true. The sad part is that I haven’t posted a Tasty Tuesday since October 2009. I better get on that again. If you have suggestions for future Tasty Tuesdays, let me know in the comments!

It’s true that I tend to cover trailers and dives more than the fancier restaurants in town — but not without exception of course! I’m up for covering any spot where the food is made with love.

Kate did her homework and didn’t list the weekly food show on KGSR that ended in Dec. 2009. Shout out to Andy and Bryan who gave me that awesome opportunity — I miss you guys! If any readers hear about a local radio or TV station that wants to do a regular food segment, feel free to name drop. I’ll take you out for dinner if it works out!

Jodi Bart is the food blogger, but her boyfriend, Adam, is the resident chef in their Northeast Austin home.

Bart’s blog, Tasty Touring, tracks the best of what’s happening in Austin’s food scene, and in the past year and a half since she started blogging, she’s become a leader in the food community, organizing Tasty Tours for her readers and, up until December of last year, hosting a weekly radio segment about food on KGSR.

The pictures above show their fridge before and after a trip to the grocery store. “It doesn’t look like much but it kept us fed for the week,” she says. Adam might be in charge of dinner most nights that they aren’t out at some of Austin’s most buzzworthy eateries, but Bart has been expanding her cooking repertoire recently with dishes like this Thai stir fry.

This month, we’ve created a Tasty Tours/Addie’s Eat-Up mashup event at more than 10 trailers tomorrow. The Tasty Up Trailer Tour will start at coffee/breakfast trailers from noon to 1 p.m., and then it’s a choose-your-own-trailer-adventure at some of the newest and most talked-about mobile food vendors in Austin.

You can find all the details at the Facebook event page, and stay tuned to the Tasty Touring and Addie’s Eat-Up pages for more events like these in the future.

What three things are always in your fridge? Mootopia Skim Milk, breakfast fruit (blackberries in the winter, blueberries and raspberries in the summer) for our cereal, random jars and bottles of exotic jams and sauces that Adam promises we’ll use some day.

What’s your favorite condiment? Adam’s homemade chipotle aioli

What’s your go-to late night snack? Cereal or graham crackers topped with crunchy peanut butter and drizzled with honey.

We enjoyed Rockstar Bagels with cream cheese and house-cured salmon, grits made with goat cheese, dill, and wonderful sweet gulf shrimp, and an egg and bacon sandwich. For a breakfasty dessert, we enjoyed blueberry greek yogurt with nuts and granola. All made with love for sure!

A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to sample most of the items on the menu during an opening party for Snack Bar and I just loved the aprons, made locally by the Apron Vixen. I’m not sure she has a website but just call Snack Bar if you want to order one for yourself or to give to your favorite blogger as a gift
