I love spending time with guest blogger Laura S. and her main squeeze Mike, so was very pleased that they were invited to attend the food blogger’s happy hour last night at Gumbo’s.
The restaurant is beautiful and location on Colorado between 7th and 8th in the historic Brown Building. While I’ve never experienced a meal at Gumbo’s, I did recently blog about Vault 55, the super exclusive wine storage facility in the basement of the building.

I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and can’t think of a more satisfying meal than a plate of fresh local seafood paired with an ice cold beer. In lovely yet land-locked Austin, a meal like that is virtually impossible to come by. My mom found an old photocopy of a letter her father wrote in early February, 1936 after meeting her mother. I never met my grandfather (Joe) as he died before I was born. This letter gave me a better picture of who he was as a person than any other picture or story has done.
