Austin Food and Drink Recommendations

Tonight I was invited to speak at the monthly meeting of the Austin Concierge and Guest Services Association. The event was held at the Hotel Ella with a delicious family-style meal provided by their on-site restaurant – Goodall’s.
I’m a huge fan of concierges – in fact, before I had an iPhone, I had the Four Seasons concierge desk on speed dial for those times when I was away from a computer and needed a recommendation. There was limited time to talk about food and drink in Austin during the meeting, …

Ottolenghi Recipes from Plenty and Jerusalem

I’ve been cooking from Yotam Ottolenghi’s books ever since my cousin Rachel told me about him. Ottolenghi and his business partner, Sami Tamimi, were both born in Jerusalem — the former is Jewish and the latter is Palestinian.

What I personally find very interesting about Ottolenghi’s approach to food is that he celebrates vegetables while at the same time also eating and enjoying meat. Favorite Austin Eats

Last week, I wrote a guest blog post for my friend Chris’ site — Republic of Austin – on my favorite restaurants in Austin. The piece was a response to the Austin Chronicle‘s recent list of “First Plates” — top restaurants chosen by their food critics.

Here’s a link to the post, which includes a list of the 66 restaurants that the Chronicle staff and I agreed on, as well as the 50 that were on my list, but not on theirs.
And here’s a complete list of my current favorite Austin restaurants (there are 116):

Our Texas Hill Country Wedding

For me, really feeling like a truly married person has been a gradual process over a year and a half period. Adam and I got engaged in Paris on Sept. 25, 2011, got legally married in Houston in a hastily planned ceremony on Dec. 25, 2011 (Christmas Day), and co-hosted a second wedding ceremony and celebration in Austin on Oct. 6, 2012. Last week, I officially changed my name to Jodi Bart Holzband on my driver’s license, and today I’m finally sharing some of my favorite moments from our Hill …
