The Sandwich Project

5 November 2012 1,501 views 15 Comments

Adam designed our wedding website, and the best part of the site was definitely the “ADAM + JODI” banner he created from scratch. It all happened on a Sunday in May when Adam had the inspiration of making our names out of sandwiches.

We started the day with brunch at Noble Pig with Emily G. and Kenny P. As we were waiting for our meal, Adam took the lead on brainstorming lists of different types of bread and sandwiches.

After brunch, I took a nap while Adam and Emily went to Central Market to shop for ingredients. When I woke up, Adam was carefully prepping ingredients in the kitchen.

Adam lightly toasted the bread so that he could cut more exact letters. He cut each letter on the first try with no mistakes, except for the M — which he got on the second try!

I was an observer to the process, so it was my job to entertain Emily and Lucy while Adam took care of business.

It was my idea to make the “+” out of matzah.

Bread

Not Gluten-free

Emily of Wild and Crazy Pearl took this amazing final photo, which we used on our wedding website. I love the way our names look on the cutting board in the grass with the checkered napkin on the side. Very picknicky!

The sandwiches are:

  • A: Grilled chicken breast with lettuce and tomato on wheat
  • D: Reuben with corned beef and sauerkraut on pumpernickel
  • A: Barbecued brisket with red onions and pickles on white
  • M: Turkey and swiss on wheat
  • J: Fried egg on pumpernickel
  • O: Lox and cream cheese on an everything bagel
  • D: Mozzarella, tomato and basil on multigrain
  • I: Hot dog with deli mustard

I insisted on staging a picture of me chasing Adam while he ran with the tray of sandwiches (Adam wasn’t into it – but he was a good sport and humored me).

After we finished, it was time for lunch! The J was delicious if I do say so myself.

Eating Our Words

Eating Our Words

Over the next few days, Adam brought the leftover sandwiches to work. No one ever caught him munching on an “M,” but he said he felt kind of surreptitious and awkward while eating the letters at his desk. Isn’t my husband talented and creative?!

Thanks, Cara! It was a really fun idea. We also made a nice print of the picture and put it up in our kitchen so we can enjoy them always.

I like that he took the sandwich fillings seriously and that they weren't just for show!

I loved this day, I love the sandwiches, your wedding website, and Lucy Bart. But most of all, I love you both. Thanks for being so delicious, creative, and meticulous. xoxoxo

    You were Adam's inspiration!

I asked Emily about the final chasing photo, but she said it unfortunately didn't come out. Oh well!

The “Adam + Jodi” banner was definitely the best part of your wedding website; 2nd part in my opinion, was your “Our Story.” The idea of the sandwiches and what they ended up being was very original and wonderful. No question, Adam has always been creative.
