Hospitality Bags for Wedding Guests
In planning our wedding, two things that I put a lot of thought into was (well, other than every little detail surrounding the wedding) the hotel where the guests would be staying and their hospitality bags to welcome them to Austin. The hotel we chose was the Sheraton Austin, and we went with that hotel because we liked the location near downtown and with easy access to the highway, the lobby was bright and welcoming, and the rooms were clean and each bed had white sheets and comforters (meaning they are regularly bleached!). The folks at the Sheraton were lovely to work with, and made me and my guests feel taken care of both leading up to, and during the wedding weekend.
When guests arrived, they were greeted with these hospitality bags at check-in.
Included in the bags was a welcome letter, wedding weekend schedule, a guide to Austin published by the Austin Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, water, fruit, nuts, mini candies, a P. Terry oatmeal-chocolate chip cookie, and 1-2 (depending on how many people the bag was for) bags of Cornucopia popcorn. The cost per-bag ended up being around $4.50 each, which seems pretty reasonable to me given all the stuff we were able to include.
A special thanks to Cornucopia, who donated a small bag of flavored popcorn for every out-of-town guest at no cost in exchange for being included in this blog post. Nadia, who is the owner of Cornucopia, told me that bags of that size sell for $2.25 each, with discounts given for bulk orders — so this donation really helped us stay within our budget. And, the flavored popcorn was the biggest hit of all!
Cornucopia is located on Guadalupe near campus, in the same parking lot as Veggie Heaven. They are locally-owned and the owner is super nice! You can order online, pickup from their shop, or they will deliver. They even have some really fun fall and holiday flavors that you can stop by the shop and try including Pumpkin Pie, Caramel Apple, Peanut Butter Trick or Treat, Candy Corn, Christmas Mix (red and green), Peppermint Chocolate Bark, Snickerdoodle, and White Chocolate Cranberry.
We picked up the water bottles, fruit, nuts, and Halloween candy from Costco, bought the cookies directly from P. Terry’s, and bought the little baggies we used for the nuts from Hobby Lobby. I ordered the brown bags and green and white chevron tissue paper online.
I hope this post helps other folks planning events with ideas for hospitality bags. They are really fun to put together, and even more fun to receive! Special shout-out to my mom and dad (but especially my mom) for all her manual labor in picking up these items and stuffing the bags!
