My 10-Day Juice Feast
I’m on Day 4 of not eating. Well, I’m taking in calories, but there’s nothing to chew on or prepare. I’m on day 4 of a 10-day juice fast (or feast if you’re a glass half full kind of person), compliments of Matt Shook and David Ansel of Juicebox Austin.
I’ve been wanting to refocus my energies on getting healthy, and have had a hard time getting motivated, so the idea of cleaning out and resetting my body really appealed to me. Also, my friend David Ansel (the Soup Peddler) agreed to do the cleanse with me, and everyone knows that misery loves company. Besides, while David had never done a 10-day juice cleanse, he has done the Master Cleanse (or Lemonade Diet) in the past, so I knew he would have good tips for me.
Each morning at 8 a.m., I call the Juicebox and order my fresh-pressed juices for the day. To start, Matt recommended I order five large, 24-oz. drinks from the Juicebox menu. Later that afternoon, I was concerned about being hungry, so I decided to order a sixth. He suggested I start with two Love Cleanses, one Beet Generation, one Salad Bar, one Flying Lotus, and a rotating pick for my last juice. The focus is on vegetables, with fruits used to sweeten the juices, without making them too sugary.
How I’m Doing
The first day was exciting. I loved tasting each juice flavor, and still felt full enough from the day before, not to feel any hunger until the afternoon, when I experienced an hour or so of hunger pangs. The next day went well too, but that night, I was super hungry when I went to bed, and on day 3 (yesterday), I woke up starving! All day yesterday I was hungry, even though I drank all my juice, along with tea, and water. I even went to pick up a seventh juice yesterday evening to stave off the feeling. This morning (day 4), I still feel hungry, but from everything I’ve read, that will start to subside by tomorrow, and day 5-10 should be a lot easier as my body adjusts.
Other than hunger, though, I feel great! My mind has been clear, I have a lot of energy, and I’ve noticed that my sinuses are clearer than I can remember them being in a long time. I did weigh and measure myself at the beginning of the cleanse, and I’ll share those results in my second post, to go up at the end of the juice feasting next week.
