Halloween Costumes and Candy Traditions

When I was a little kid, I loved dressing up. I mean, what child doesn’t? Here is a picture of me in one of my favorite get-ups:

But as I grew older, I started to hate Halloween and all the pressure I felt to dress up in some costume, go to a bunch of parties, get beer spilled on me by strangers, and likely feel uncomfortable in what I’m wearing. But then my friends Betsy and David had a Mad Men New Years party last year, and I really got into the theme:

And at work this year, some of my colleagues got together as the cast of Grease. I love a team costume theme!

I re-used my Rosie the Riveter costume that I wore tobeg for votes during the Foodie Fantasy video contest last spring:

And another group of colleagues dressed up as the characters in Clue. It was awesome:

But ever since I met Adam, the day after Halloween has been the most exciting part of the holiday. For years, Adam has gone shopping in the days after the holiday to pick up discounted bags of candy to share with friends who come to visit. And in the past three years, we have divided and conquered the deal hunting. And here is our stash…beautiful, isn’t it?!

If you ever come to my house, remember to check our candy offerings in the brick structure next to the door. And if you’re in the mood, grab a piece of sugary goodness. It’s in season right now, so come by and say hello :-)

Do you dress up for Halloween? What are some of your favorite costumes? What were you this year?

How about passing out candy? Do you cower in a back room of your house, with only a reading light and hope the trick or treaters believe you aren’t home? Or, do you carve a pumpkin, turn on all the lights and wait for the kiddos to knock?
