Hurray for new coffee options near my house! For those of you who live or work in East Central Austin, you should know that Elixir Coffee is open off Airport near the Mueller development.
Elixir coffee is made with locally roasted beans and served out of a 1952 Studebaker that the owners call “Roscoe.” They are usually parked at 4209 Airport Blvd, 78723 near the old airport hangar at Mueller park. Hours are 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. – noon Saturday and Sunday.

It’s election season and Central Market is creatively branding their October focus on cheese to “melt” in nicely with all the political talk. It’s called “Hail to the Cheese” and the celebration will continue through Tuesday, Oct. 26.
Adam and I were at Central Market North this weekend, and picked up the “Cheese Guide” below to thumb through. Most “marketing material” is the kind of thing I pick up and almost immediately throw away, but this one is a keeper!

Uchiko has been a major source of happiness in our lives over the past handful of months. In June, we received an invitation to try this “son of Uchi” during their pre-opening event where everything on the menu was half price. If you’re at ACL today, I recommend keeping an eye out for Coolhaus Ice Cream Truck on Barton Springs Road — probably at Thom’s Market. According to their Twitter feed, they have been camped out there all weekend serving up delicious ice cream sandwiches to the music loving masses.
The Austin Coolhaus truck is the second location nationwide, the first is in L.A. According to New York Street Food, they will be bringing Coolhaus to New York City in 2011.
