Coolhaus Ice Cream Sandwiches
If you’re at ACL today, I recommend keeping an eye out for Coolhaus Ice Cream Truck on Barton Springs Road — probably at Thom’s Market. According to their Twitter feed, they have been camped out there all weekend serving up delicious ice cream sandwiches to the music loving masses.
The Austin Coolhaus truck is the second location nationwide, the first is in L.A. According to New York Street Food, they will be bringing Coolhaus to New York City in 2011.
Coolhaus is an architectural dessert miracle with a wonderful cookie filled with interesting and delicious flavors of ice cream. The Austin Coolhaus truck is run by lovely couple Nathan and Christine, and they post their location on their website (click on the calendar link) and on Twitter.
For example, planned stops this week include South Congress on Tuesday night, the Mueller development on Wednesday night, and E.A.T. (East Austin Trailer Park and Drive-In) on Thursday night. Note that while they stay current on their Twitter feed, they share it with the Los Angeles Coolhaus truck so make sure you scroll down (L.A. posts a lot more) to see what they’re up to.
According to their website, Coolhaus offers the following cookie flavors: chocolate, chocolate chip, ginger, oatmeal, snicker doodle. Ice cream flavors include: dirty mint chip, brown butter with candied bacon, chocolate chipotle, lemon peel, Madagascar vanilla bean, peanut butter, red velvet, balsamic fig and marscapone, lambrusco, blood orange.
They do offer gluten-free cookies and vegan ice cream and I’ve enjoyed all the flavors I’ve tasted (and that includes most of them since Nathan and Christine are very amenable to tasting before ordering).
A Coolhaus ice cream sandwich will set you back $4 and can easily be shared with a loved one, but I prefer ordering different combinations and sharing multiple ice cream sandwich treats. Enjoy!Tags: coolhaus, dessert, food truck, food trailer, ice cream
