Tasty Tuesdays: The Summer of Food Trailers!

For the entire history of Tasty Tuesdays, I’ve never asked you guys to share your favorite food trailer. Why? Because I hate when people ask me that. I mean, it depends on location, time of day, type of food, who I’m with, etc. So many factors!

So I’ve made the executive decision as chief tasting officer over here at Tasty Touring, Inc., to devote the next month and a half of Tasty Tuesdays to the best of Austin food trailers.

To my mind, the best way to do this is by time of day. And I somewhat randomly will increase the time of day by 3 hours each week. The first time of day I’d like you to contemplate for your favorite food trailer? That would be 8 a.m.

What food trailer do you most enjoy at 8 a.m. and why?

    At 8:00 a.m., whatever food trailer happens to be in my dreams would be my favorite!

    Ha! Awesome :-) I'm sure you'll be able to weigh in during the coming weeks. Next week we'll move on to 11 a.m. so hopefully that will be easier to chime in on!

  • I find it rough to try to get to La Boite when I work downtown and am coming from northeast Austin. But sounds like it's worth getting up 15 minutes earlier for!
    And I did say El Norteno on Cameron has amazing tortillas but the fillings are equally great. :) And finally, I know this isn't a trailer ... but after years of going to Curra's for the Oaxacan coffee and good breakfasts, I just recently discovered that they do breakfast tacos on red corn tortillas. Soft, warm red corn tortillas. Am I the only Curra's fan who didn't know this??

    I did not know either. I love Curra's too but didn't even realize they served breakfast :-)

    La Boite for non-taco breakfasts and coffee and La Guera for tacos. La Guera used to be the orange trailer on S. Lamar at about Mary, but has relocated to S. Congress I think. I haven't had a chance to go since they moved.

    La Boite for sure! They are so friendly there, and it's only about two minutes drive from my house. All I need is one cup of her French press to get me through the day!

    Time to answer my own question. I'd say that my favorite 8 a.m. food trailers would have to include coffee or breakfast tacos. Right now, those on my radar include: La Boite (open at 7 a.m. on weekdays/9 a.m. on weekends), and patika coffee on 2nd and Congress (8 a.m. - weekdays only). I've only been to Torchy's once, and never for breakfast and am realizing that most of my breakfast tacos come from non-mobile spots!

    In the a.m, I love to get my coffee from the Good Bike Cafe on San Gabriel and 24th in West campus. The Cuban coffee is to die for :) mmm plus they have Cuatros breakfast burritos and bagels & lox, if you need a nosh.
