It’s Fry Time for Chanukah!

I’m looking for the first night of Chanukah, beginning at sundown tonight when we’ll:

Light the first candle of the menorah (Hanukkiah) with the shamash (while in reality a candle, the shamash doesn’t count as one of the eight candles — their only purpose is for viewing).
Recite the Chanukah blessings and sing songs.
Eat fried potato pancakes (latkes), and sufganiyot (donuts).
Play dreidel and eat chocolate gelt (potentially Twix this year as I haven’t been to a store that sells gelt yet).

Bethany Andree, owner of Snack Bar Austin visits KGSR

This morning Bethany Andree brought delicious treats from the newly opened Snack Bar Austin, on S. Congress in between the Austin Motel and Jo’s Coffee Shop, to share with Bryan, Andy and me during our “Tasty Thursdays” segment.
Snack Bar is open from 7 a.m. – 12 a.m. and offers breakfast, brunch, sandwiches, organic wines, global appetizers and more.

Best Omlette Ever

Growing up in suburban Maryland, there was a company called Mr. Omlette that you could hire for parties and brunches. That event’s Mr. Omlette would wear a white chefs coat and a tall toque and it was so much fun to pick as many fillings as I wanted.
Back in mid-September I was visiting my family in Maryland for both Rosh Hashanah and my birthday and our friends the Feldmans/Rices invited us over to brunch.

Lunch with Austin Pizza King, Seth Mazow

It’s been a month or so since I met Seth at Homeslice to enjoy the sun-dappled patio and a free pizza. My day job keeps me pretty much tied to my desk so I asked Seth if we could go early to beat the lines. I walked in when they opened at 11:30 a.m. and saw a line of work-a-day type dudes wrapped around the building, waiting for their pizza fix. It wasn’t even a Friday!
