You’re Bacon Me Crazy!

A couple weeks ago, I overheard a new friend, Brian, talking about bacon to fellow food blogger Logan of Boots in the Oven. My ears immediately perked up and I asked what this bacon talk was all about. Turns out, Brian’s brother Greg Bass cures and smokes pork belly at home and gives portions of bacon to friends and friends of friends. The Austin Chronicle referred to Greg as an “extreme bacon hobbyist” in an April story about local restaurants curing their own bacon.
Greg and Logan met at a hog-butchering …

Best Happy Hour on KGSR

Today we talked about some of the best Austin happy hours on KGSR today. I learned that Bryan loves a good happy hour and can be found at Ranch 616 on a Friday night. Some of my favorite spots include the Four Seasons for their 1/2 price happy hour deals and South Congress Cafe (pictured below) for their mid-day happy hours and excellent glassware. So needless to say, I was excited to check out Perla’s, hopeful it would help fill my homesick yearnings for the fresh and flavorful fruits of the sea.
The Scene – As soon as I entered Perla’s lush, oak-tree lined patio area, I felt …

Tasty Tuesdays: Best Pizza in Austin

When I first moved to Austin back in October 2003, I mourned the loss of a good New York City pizza. We had Saccones, but it was way up north and I was a south of the river girl back then. It felt like I had two choices for every meal I ate: Tex Mex or BBQ.
Austin has changed in the past five years and the dining scene has become more varied and interesting. While we have lost some wonderful spots like Las Manitas and Texicali Grille, we have gained …
