KGSR: Gluten-Free Deliciousness and Austin’s Best Pizza

18 June 2009 2,214 views 10 Comments

We’re trying something new, folks! I found a program that will host mp3′s from the KGSR morning show for free. Please let me know if you have problems with the audio via e-mail or comments. Enjoy!

5-almondkissesThe first segment is with Karen Morgan of Blackbird Bakery. Karen is working on her first cookbook this summer to bring her delectable gluten-free baked goods like the almond kiss, popovers, and cookies to kitchens nationwide. While she does provide custom desserts for local restaurants, catering, and mail order goodies, she is taking a break this summer to focus on the book and will reopen in the fall.

The second segment is a discussion of the best pizza in Austin. Thanks to everyone for voting and eating! In my opinion, best pizza in Austin includes: Homeslice, House, Salvation, East Side Pies, Cipollina, Saccones, Giovanni, Reale’s, Asti, Hog Island Deli, Slices and Ices, Niki’s, Primizie, Inoteca Vespaio.

Jodi, you forget that Conan's actually won the pizza competition at Katie's house.

  • Jodi

You are right. I found the results in an old e-mail*:

    1. Conan's
    2. Saccones
    3. Niki's
    4. Parlor & Southside (tie)
    5. Home Slice
    6. Frank & Angie's
    7. Rounders
    8. Austin's Pizza
    9. Rock 'n Tomato
    10. Brick Oven
    11. Totinos

*This event was over two years ago and attendees signed up to bring a pie. NOT included were East Side and Salvation (although they were open at the time) and Home Slice had a bad night and burned the pie (something I haven't experienced again).

You need to try Paisano's in Georgetown. I used to drive from South Austin just to get a slice!!! Now I live closer. It's very authentic NY style pizza. Founders are from Napoli. You all will need a redo on the best pizza in Austin!

This is one that I have not heard of but I will add it to the list!
