Muffin Bus Magic

A couple weeks ago, I met Laura, co-creator of Dishola, at the Taste No Evil Muffin Company — the crazy trolley set up outside of Maria’s Taco Xpress on South Lamar. Having been reading recently reading about the history of food carts in Austin Texas, I was interested to learn that Maria, and her neighbor, Matt of Matt’s El Rancho, each began with a cart before saving up enough to open their own restaurants.

The two muffins I tried were AMAZING. Laura and I shared the blackberry peach (a daily special) and stuffed cream cheese coffee cake, a coffee cake style muffin with cream cheese stuffed in the center (after baking). I sipped a hot chai and marveled at how packed the blackberry peach was of fresh fruit and tried to figure out how they go the cream cheese in the middle of the muffin. These are really some of the best muffins I’ve had and they are clearly made and served with love (thanks to Nicole – below!).

nicoleIn checking out the website, I notice that TNEMC delivers Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and I’m going to seriously start lobbying for my company to order in some muffins one Friday instead of the breakfast tacos we bring in on the final Friday of each month. They only charge a $3 delivery fee too!

berryMost people know TNEMC by it’s nickname, The Muffin Bus and if you google “muffin bus austin,” you will find it. Another great way to remember this little business is to follow the baker/owner on Twitter at www.twitter.com/TNEMC. Karisa, the “muffin artist,” frequently posts deals and announces the daily special muffins. I can’t wait to go back and try the Cran Bran Breakfast Bonanza next!

I’ll let you in on a little secret….The cran bran breakfast bonanza is my FAVORITE muffin.

  • Lisa

I really wanted to like this place but my husband and I found the cherry cobbler muffin and the blueberry bliss muffin dry and tasteless. :-(

  • Neil

Don’t know what you’re talking about Lisa. The cherry and blueberry muffins are both great. I haven’t tried them all yet, but I will !

I have been going to the Muffin Bus for a while to get muffins for housewarming presents or for birthdays or whatever. The pretty gal who runs the Bus has saved me a few times when I was stuck for gift ideas. Everybody loves those things!

  • Rick

Steve: How do you wrap a muffin? Sounds like a good idea for my Mom’s birthday but … do they sell gift boxes or something?

  • Steve

Rick: Dude, you are trying too hard. Get one of each and put them in a basket. You’ll be a hero.

  • Jodi

Muffin gifts are a great idea! Do you guys deliver, Karisa? I’ll be by soon to try the cran bran breakfast bonanza!

  • Ellen

Completly worth the $3 delivery charge! Still, I wish our office was close enough to walk.
