I hope you can join us on Saturday, April 11 at 11 a.m. for a Texas wine and cheese tasting and tour at Flat Creek Estate in Marble Falls. Madelyn, the wine diva, is working on a delicious event for us that will include local wine and Texas cheese to tempt your palette.

Flat Creek is offering:

Bronze Tasting – $15
Wine and local cheese tasting, tour (includes samples of 3 cheeses, 7 wines)

Silver Tasting – $25
Bronze tasting plus a bag lunch to include a sandwich, cookie, chips, and water (let Madelyn know if you have a special diet)

The wine tasting will end by 1 p.m. and there are many more fun adventures to be had in the area. A list of ideas follow:

Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge
The Refuge, located 10 minutes from Flat Creek helps protect the nesting habitat of the endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler and Black-capped Vireo.The Shin Oak Observation Deck is set in the middle of the Black-capped Vireo habitat. It will have been closed for 3 weeks to protect the newly arriving vireos until the day before our trip (bring your binoculars!). There are trails throughout the refuge including one that offers views of Lake Travis.

Sweet Berry Farm
The berry farm is located about 40 minutes from Flat Creek and the strawberries will be ripe for the picking. According to the website, the berry picking season is from March to April. The strawberries are $2.50 per pound and they take cash or check only. There is also a cute petting zoo on site.

Blue Bonnet Cafe
Blue Bonnet Cafe was featured in the December 2008 issue of Texas Monthly and is famous for homemade pies and big breakfasts. The pies are baked fresh daily and topped with LOTS of whipped cream or meringue. Choose from chocolate, coconut, lemon, banana, German chocolate, fudge, peanut butter, apple, cherry, pecan, and sugar-free apple.
