I couldn’t resist sharing the brand new Grupo Fantasma video by Onion Creek & API Productions. Produced and directed by friends of Adam’s and featuring Adam (as a dancing green disco ball and a crowd member) and others in his crew, it brings us back to the days of the cheesy 70′s & 80′s PBS telethons we loved to hate. Check out the new single “Gimme Some” (click on HQ for high quality):

Road Food – Austin to Houston

Rachel and I drove from Austin to Houston on Sunday for the unveiling of the marker for her grandfather, Papa Joe. The purpose of the trip was to honor and remember Joe after he passed away almost exactly one year ago. I was able to squeeze in some tasty touring along the way, however.
We left Austin at 7:30 a.m. and stopped along 290 at Shipley Do-Nuts. The first Shipley donuts were sold for five cents a dozen in 1936. There are now 90 locations in and around Houston.

You might wonder why My Thai Mom isn’t hyperlinked. I mean, even Russ & Daughters in NYC has a web site and they are about as family-owned as a business …

Cheap Tasty Tours – SXSW 2009 Edition

Smart marketing by the folks at Yelp — they asked their advertisers to provide one or more menu items for half price in exchange for some advertising to hungry SXSW-goers. It’s a great idea that promotes Yelp, promotes the businesses, and feeds the masses without breaking the bank. Click the ad below for more details on the deals:

I’ve put together some mini tasty-tours based on location for the out-of-towners or Austinites with a bad sense of direction:
The South Lamar Sushi and Wine Tour

$5 glass of wine at House Wine + …
