Toot Sweets for Your Sweet
The other day my colleague sent an e-mail around the office announcing that her boyfriend had surprised her with a large box of cupcakes. They were from Toot Sweet Cupcakes, one of the few local cupcake purveyors that I had not yet tried.
Toot Sweet’s cupcakes are gorgeous, topped with adorable tiny hearts, mini-Reese’s Pieces, and came in a large brown box with see-through cover and a thick ribbon wrapped around it.
The cakes themselves are small and I found them extremely dry even though they are filled with custard. I’m not really one for fillings but I don’t think the custard tasted very good. The icing is really tall and towers over the tiny cake. While I love icing, their version is too sugary for me.
I’m kind of sick of this cupcake trend, it’s gone on far too long in my opinion. However, I still enjoy a good cupcake and when that craving hits in Austin, I’ll continue to head straight for Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop or one of the shops that sell Celeste’s Best delicious vegan cupcakes.
Others in my office really enjoyed the cupcakes and I do think it was a very sweet gesture by the boyfriend who sent them. One cute thing that Toot Sweet does is they take a photo of the cupcake recipient and e-mail it to the giver so that he/she can check out their reaction. Sweet!
