A Pleasant Morning

On a recent weekday morning, I dropped my car off for an oil change and walked over to Thunderbird Coffee to check my sites (gmail, Twitter, Facebook), eat breakfast, and work remotely.
I’d never been to Thunderbird before but the atmosphere is nice and I think they serve good coffee. The pressed egg and cheese sandwich was nothing special but I enjoyed the change from the usual breakfast taco offering.

Toot Sweets for Your Sweet

The other day my colleague sent an e-mail around the office announcing that her boyfriend had surprised her with a large box of cupcakes. They were from Toot Sweet Cupcakes, one of the few local cupcake purveyors that I had not yet tried.
Toot Sweet’s cupcakes are gorgeous, topped with adorable tiny hearts, mini-Reese’s Pieces, and came in a large brown box with see-through cover and a thick ribbon wrapped around it.

This is a “Live Blog.” I am sitting in the cooking school room upstairs at Central Market North in Austin.

A Cup of Tea

I really love simple things. Walking the dog on a crisp and sunny day. Deep breaths. An afternoon nap. A piece of ripe fruit. A hug from someone I love. A hot bath. Reading a good book. Baking.
Over the past week, I’ve been helping my parents pack up the home they lived in for almost 25 years. It hasn’t been simple. Making decisions about what will matter to me in the next 5, 10, 15…30 years…is hard.
