Local Food Announcements
There will probably soon be a line out the door at Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop on S. 1st and Oltorf…to celebrate their half birthday (183 days old) they are giving away one baked good per person to the first 183 customers. After that, everything is half off for the rest of the day until they run out (hours are 12-8 but guaranteed they will run out early). Sugar Mama’s are my favorite cupcakes in town but as I’m still on my cleanse, you’ll have to eat one on my behalf.
Austin Restaurant Week is coming up — March 1-4 and 8-11 (Sun – Wed for the next two weeks). You get three courses for either $25 or $35 and you can pick a different restaurant for eight total nights. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas. You can also get your drink on for charity at some of the official Austin Restaurant Week nightcap spots.
Ticket’s for the Sustainable Food Center’s annual fundraiser, Farm to Plate, go on sale this Saturday, Feb. 28. Over twenty chefs and ten Hill Country wineries will participate working with the best of Central Texas’ regional foods – all from Austin Farmers’ Market vendors. If you buy your tickets before March 14, they are only $75 — after that, they are $85. This is a deal considering you are getting all local products prepared by the likes of Jesse Griffiths, Mark Chapman, Todd Duplechan, Shawn Cirkiel, and more from Austin’s finest eateries.
